The Croatian Olympic Committee and the Croatian Fair Play Committee, in cooperation with the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) have the honour to host the 17th European Fair Play Congress on 29/30 September 2011 and the EFPM General Assembly on 1 October 2011, in Porec, Croatia.
On Behalf of the Croatian Olympic Committee, we would like to invite you to the 17th European Fair Play Congress in Porec.
Topic of the Congress is "Sport as a Part of Culture: Fair Play as a Part of Sports Culture".
We invite you to join us and attend the 17th European Fair Play Congress and therefore participate actively in the promotion of fair play and other values of sport and through the exchange of good practice and scientific presentations gain new experiences and insights into the promotion and respect of fair play, tolerance in sport as well as in other areas of life and relations of children, the youth and other citizens.

Welcome to Croatia! Welcome to Porec!
- Porec, partner of the Croatian Olympic Team, hosts the 17th European Fair Play Congress
ZAGREB- Porec is situated on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, along the Adriatic coast, and has about 20,000 inhabitants. The town is almost 2,000 years old and its history has been marked by the Romans, Venitians and the Byzantines.
Owing to its extraordinary geographical position, beauty spots and cultural monuments, Porec is nowadays one of the strongest tourist centres in Croatia. A mild climate, lush Mediterranean vegetation, warm and pure sea, cultural monuments, a well-developed sports infrastructure and hospitable people attract every guest. The Town of Porec has been a partner of the Croatian Olympic Team Members since 2003 and its role in sport contributes greatly to hosting the 2011 European Fair Play Congress.
Fair Play in Croatia
The Croatian Fair Play Committee
Besides the Croatian Olympic Committee, which promotes Fair play in its programmes and activities and selects candidates for the annual Fair Play Award, the Croatian Fair Play Committee also implements ideas and Fair play activities in sport.
The Croatian Fair Play Committee is made up of eleven Croatian Olympic Committee representatives (athletes, coaches, Committee members and other sports officials) plus four representatives of the Croatian Sports Journalists Association. It acts in conformity with the Croatian Fair Play Committee regulations, signed by the Croatian Olympic Committee and the Croatian Sports Journalists Association in mutual agreement. The Croatian Fair Play Committee influences the development of Fair play initiatives and the practice of Fair play between competitors, coaches and officials, referees and spectators, thereby contributing to promoting Fair play ideas and behaviour in order to preserve the values of sport and create mutual respect, understanding and tolerance not only in sport but also in society in general.

The 17th European Fair Play Congress and the 17th EFPM General Assembly will be held in Porec, from 28 September to 1 October 2011. The Congress topic is: Sport as a Part of Culture - Fair Play as a Part of Sport Culture.

Congress Venue and
Accommodation of Guests
The 17th EFP Congress will take place in the Istrian Parliament building, in an especially arranged Congress hall that simultaneously serves as a centre for cultural projects involving music, drama and art. The historic value of the building, once a church, provides the special atmosphere of a modern building. The Congress venue is at walking distance from the Valamar Riviera Hotel. The participants will stay at the Valamar Riviera Hotel & Residence, one of the most stylish small hotels in Croatia. The hotel is located on the seaside of the old town and offers a beautiful view of the sea and its town walls.
The hotel has ninetythree double, three single rooms and nine suites. The room rate, breakfast and other services and amenities included, in a double room for single use is 100 € per day. The rate for two persons in a double room is 130 € per day.

Transportation
You can reach Porec by car, bus, train or plane. The closest railway stations are Rijeka and Trieste, while the nearest airports are Pula (58 km from Porec), Trieste (120 km from Porec), Zagreb (265 km from Porec) and Ljubljana (180 km from Porec). If needed, the Croatian Olympic Committee and the municipality of Porec will provide transfers from and to the mentioned airports.
Presidentof Croatia, prof.dr.sc. Ivo Josipovic accepted patronage of the 17. EFP Congress
President of the Republic of Croatia, prof.dr.sc. Ivo Josipovic accepted patronage of the 17. EFP Congress, yesterday, on 18th March 2011. He invited delagation of Croatian Olympic Committee and Fair Play Committee in his Residence. We informed him about the EFP Congress and also about preparation activities. He accepted the patronge above the 17.EFP Congress, as he said, with pleasure, and he will send video message to the participants of the Congress.

PROPOSAL TO CONSIDER CHRISTIAN BLAREAU
(1951-2011) AS AN EFPM HONORARY MEMBER
("IN MEMORIAM")

Christian Blareau was born in 1951.
In 1975 he obtained his Ph.D. in History from the University of Paris. Moreover, he also obtained Master Degrees in sports law, economy and sports organisation management. From 1991 to 1999 he served as a professor of sports law, economy and management at the National Institute of Sport and Physical Education (INSEP) and, in parallel, he was responsible for teaching the same subjects at the University of Evry, Since 1999 he was also working for the Ministry of Health. He was author of of books dealing with sports education as well as co-responsible for the organisation of the book collection published by the AFSVFP. |
Christian Blareau was a former National Judo Champion (1982). He got his black belt (5th dan) in 1987. He taught Judo and was a member of the Jury for the national team. He was also an international judge and referee for Ju-jitsu. In 2008 he was elected President for the Ju-jitsu European Union, till 2012. He served this Federation with respect and decency, offering to its development a relevant work, always respecting all the ju-jitsu values and being also a disseminator of the ethical principles in sport activities, namely in martial arts.
Christian Blareau was Vice-President of the Association Française pour un Sport sans Violence et pour le Fair Play (AFSVFP), being responsible for the development of various initiatives aiming the spreading of the Fair Play values and principles. Since 2004 he was the French delegate to EFPM. During the 14th EFP Congress held in Nicosia 2008, he was elected as an Executive Committee member of the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM), being appointed as Treasurer of our organisation. He fulfilled this task with great enthusiasm, affection and competence, despite his progressive illness. He was responsible for the production of some important documents for the development of the EFPM activities, beyond acting as the EFPM representative in many European sport events.
Christian Blareau died last July 25th at his home after a long and courageous fight against the illness. His work in favour of the EFPM deserves the praise and the recognition of the European Fair Play Community.
On behalf of the EFPM Executive Committee I submit into the consideration of the participants of the 18th General Assembly of the European Fair Play Movement, the proposal to grant the EFPM Honorary Membership to Christian Blareau (“In Memoriam”).
