14th European Fair Play Congress

First Announcement
The Cyprus Sports Organisation is honored to host the 14th European Fair Play Congress in Nicosia from October 1 to 5, 2008.
The general topic of the Congress, which will be held just after the Olympic Games in Beijing is “Violence and Racism – A Challenge to the Sporting Community”. We believe that this subject will generate a lively and open discussion. The many examples of negative and positive behavior as well as the experience of the Olympic Games and the 2008 European Football Championship will provide a special basis for this.
The Congress venue will be the HILTON PARK HOTEL in Nicosia, a 5 star Hotel, located in one of the capital’s prime residential areas, 45 km from Larnaca Airport and only 5 minutes from the town centre, close to the embassies, the Cyprus International State Fair, the Museums, the Horse Race Club and the entertainment areas.
The participants will be accommodated in the same Hotel at the following rates of:
Single Room including Breakfast per night: € 125
Double Room including Breakfast per night: € 145
Please note that the currency in Cyprus is the Euro (€)
Travelling to Cyprus
Cyprus offers excellent travel connections to the entire world through its main International Airport in Larnaca, 45 km from Nicosia and the International Airport in Paphos, 100 km from Nicosia.
Cyprus is a member of the European Union and the relevant regulations fully apply for entry into the Island. Please note that no SHENGEN visas are acceptable in Cyprus.
An airport pick-up service will operate during the official arrival and departure dates.
Weather
Cyprus enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Hot dry summers from Mid-May to Mid-September and rainy, rather changeable winters from November to Mid- March are separated by short autumn and spring seasons.
Temperatures range between 20-35° C from April to October.
The Congress
The Congress will be held under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE).
The Organising Committee consists of Messrs. Gen. Charalambos Lottas, COC Member and EFPM EC Member, Costas Papacostas, KOA Gen. Manager, Costas Solomou KOA Officer and Ioannis Psilopoulos, EFPM Gen. Secretary.
The participants are expected to arrive on Wednesday, October 1. The Opening Ceremony will be held the same evening.
Deadline for submission of short papers is July 31, for national reports September 12. Keeping these deadlines will help the organisers to arrange the procedures in the best possible way.
Mid-May will see the official invitations with detailed information sent out to all EFPM Members, the European NOCs, the European Sports Federations, the University Sports Science Departments and Institutes, the Ambassadors for Tolerance and Fair Play, as well as to numerous other organisations, institutions and experts.

2009 15th EFPM Congress In Azerbaijan
2009 Administrative Body of EFPM assembled in Cyprus, Nicosia
It is unanimously decided that EFPM Congress shall be held in Azerbaijan, Baku. The resolution is submitted to Azerbaijani representatives in Nicosia (Deputy Chairman Cengiz Hüseyinzade and Head of Fair Play Committee Hazar İsaev).
The Administrative Body also worked on preparations for 14th congress to be held in October.

Second Announcement
The 14th EFPM Congress will be held next October, in Nicosia, Cyprus, under the topic “Violence and Racism - a challenge to the sporting community” and the congress organisation was endorsed to the Cyprus Sports Organisation.
The discussion of the above mentioned topic intends to represent a relevant contribution to emphasize the importance of Fair Play ideas as a way of helping people to understand the meaning of positive and fair attitudes not only in the sport movement, but also for harmony, tolerance and mutual understanding in Society.
We would like the Congress to produce an open and vast discussion on the topic, meaning an excellent opportunity, to share experiences, to make acknowledge with the projects, programs and campaigns being developed all along Europe.
So, the Congress will develop according to the following organisation structure:
- Conferences (30’ min. + 10’ for questions). The keynote speakers will be experts coming from Cyprus, Austria and England.
- National reports will be addressed in a written form to the local organisers, no later than September 12th. These reports will be given in a booklet, to the national delegates upon their arrival.
There will be no oral presentation of national reports.
We suggest that the national reports to be presented contain:
- Structure of the National Fair Play organisation (year of foundation, entity to which it is related, members, aims, funding, etc…)
- Projects and campaigns to be developed during 2007/2008 (only a mention and the highlights of each one).
- Projects and campaigns to be developed during 2008/2009 (only mentioning the title, aims and main targets).
The text of the national reports to be present shall not exceed 3 pages, A4 double space.
- Oral presentations / short papers (15-17 minutes). All national delegates, as well as representatives from European Sport Organisations, Universities, Youth Organisations, Municipalities, Sport Federations, are invited to present an oral presentation on the Congress topic.
All delegates shall be prepared to present to the participants a draft copy of their presentation.
All interested shall work in the respective space in the Registration of Presentation form, their intention of giving an oral presentation (short paper). The Registration of Presentation Form, including the remark, must be sent to the local organisers no later than July 31, 2008.
The respect for the deadline is decisive for the organisation of the final programme of the Congress.
Panel discussion – A panel discussion on the congress topic will be organized with the participation of distinguished individualities to be invited by the organizers.
Posters Exhibition, European Faculties of Sport Science and Physical Education, and scholar researchers are invited to present their research studies as posters presentation. The posters will be exhibited during the Congress, enabling a sharing of information with the participants.
Material exhibition there will be a space reserved where the national delegates can exhibit the Fair Play material produced in their countries (documentation, cartoons contest, t-shirts, banners, pin, etc…).
As well as requested for the oral presentation, all delegates interested in presenting a material exhibition, shall mark their interest filling with an X, the respective space on the Registration of Presentation Form mentioning the equipment and the space considered essential for the exhibition. The deadline is the same than the one previous informed, July 31, 2008.
Please note that if you need an Entry Visa to Cyprus we kindly ask you to start all necessary procedures at the nearest Cyprus Embassy as soon as possible. In that respect we would like you to send us a copy of your passport with all relevant information as well as the address of the Embassy of Cyprus where you plan to collect the Visa.
