Statutes for EFPM Awards

 

European Fair Play Awards

Regulation: The European Fair Play Awards were established by the European Fair Play Movement (EFPM) under the patronage of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in order to encourage the promotion of Fair Play principles in Europe, and are given in recognition of services rendered over an undefined period excluding the year in which the Executive Committee makes and presents the Awards.

The Awards will be given annually in accordance with the following categories:

A. The European Fair Play Plaque of Merit and Diploma to:

A national Fair Play organisation, a sports organisation or an educational institution, for its contribution to the spreading of the values and principles of Fair Play and Tolerance and/or for supporting appropriate initiatives aimed at the preservation of ethical values in sport.

• An individual for her/his personal contribution and/or services rendered to the:

• Implementation of sporting values

• Development of a national Fair Play organisation

• Education of youth or athletes in the spirit of Fair Play and Tolerance

• Study and better understanding of Ethics in Sport.

This Award can also be given to an individual for an outstanding gesture or action made during a sporting event.

B. The European Fair Play Diploma

To an organisation as mentioned above or to an individual in consideration of their relevant contribution to the preservation or implementation of ethical values in sport.

A maximum of one European Fair Play Plaque of Merit and Diploma shall be awarded in each of categories A1 and A2.

The number of European Fair Play Diplomas to be awarded shall be decided by the Awards Committee, up to a maximum of two, according to the quality of the applications received.

Applications

Applications for all categories of Award shall be made no later than March 15 by: a national Fair Play organisation; any European National Olympic Committee or a member of the EFPM Executive Committee, except in the case of an application for an Award to a national Fair Play organisation, which shall be presented by one of the above-mentioned organisations or individuals outside the country concerned.

Award Ceremonies

The Award Ceremonies shall be organised preferably in the year in which the nomination was approved and generally in the recipient’s own country.

Winners of the EFPM Awards.

The European Fair Play Awards, given jointly by the Association of European Olympic Committees and the EFPM, are now in the fourth year. There are new regulations governing the giving of these awards and winners will be chosen by a new jury. We congratulate the winners, who will now take their place in the annals of world sport.

European Fair Play Awards, Year 1996

The First EFPM Award was given by the decision of EFPM Executive Board for the Fair Play behavior at football competition between Turkey & Croatia in 1996 European Football Championship to

European Fair Play Awards, Year 1997

 

The EFPM Award for the year 1997 was given to

• Yediot Ahronot Newspaper of Israel

because of their decision for electing Mrs. Ghada Shauaa, an athlete of Syria, as “The Athlete of the Year 1996”.

 

European Fair Play Awards, Year 1998

On 1998 the Statutes of the EFPM Awards was established. And according to this Awards Statutes, the first awards were given on 1999.
