2009 European Fair Play Diploma under the patronage of the European Olympic Committees

Zdenek Hruby and Radek Jaros, mountain climbers from Czech Republic, who during an ascent of the 8.000m Dhaulagiri peak in Himalayas saved two Polish climbers suffering from altitude sickness, risking their own safety and lives and reducing their chances of reaching the summit, received the European Fair Play Diploma under the patronage of the European Olympic Committees.
“Their brave behaviour is remarkable also in contrast of the poor behaviour which has unfortunately recently become more common in Himalaya climbing," Czech Fair Play Club explained.
The mountain climbers were honoured under the presence of famous personalities, such as Mr. M. Jirasek, President of Czech Olympic Committee, Mr. J. Dovalil, Vice-President of Czech Olympic Committee, Mrs. M. Kopicová, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, Mrs. K. Peckova, President of Czech Fair Play Club. M. Lämmer, Vice-President of EFPM, and K. Raczova, executive member of EFPM, handed over the award, covered by Czech media including television
