FAIR PLAY AND PIERRE DE COUBERTIN COMMITTEES OF SAN MARINO: IN RIMINI FOR THE LIGHTING OF THE 2026 OLYMPIC FLAME
On the occasion of the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony held on Monday, 5 January 2026, in Piazza Malatesta in Rimini, the San Marino National Fair Play Committee (CNSFP) and the San Marino Pierre de Coubertin Committee attended this important and significant event. The Olympic Flame symbolises Peace, Unity, Brotherhood, Purity and continuity between the Ancient and Modern Games. The flame is lit in Olympia (Greece) and carried in a relay to emphasise a universal message of hope, loyalty and encounter between peoples, illuminating the pursuit of excellence in sport.
The Olympic Flame also represents the values of freedom, life and civilisation, derived from the myth of Prometheus, and acts as a link between the ancient Games, where it burned continuously, and the current ones, culminating in the lighting of the cauldron.
As the Flame comes to life, the bond between cultures, generations and shared ideals is renewed; each Olympic edition begins here, with a ritual gesture that reminds the world of the power of sport as a universal bridge.
The Flame shines as a promise of a better future, as a messenger of timeless values. Its departure from Olympia marks the beginning of an epic journey, crossing countries, cities, histories and people.
The CNSFP and CSPC would also like to extend their warmest wishes to the Olympic Delegation of the Republic of San Marino, which will be taking part in the upcoming Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, wishing them every success in the Olympic spirit that always accompanies them at every edition.
