FAIR PLAY MEETING AT KOCAELI UNIVERSITY (TUR)

As part of the traditional “Fair Play Universities Caravan” organized by the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOC), which is a member of the European Fair Play Movement, students of Kocaeli University came together with the Fair Play philosophy. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Selçuk Bora Çavuşoğlu, a member of the Board of Directors representing the European Fair Play Movement in the international arena, and also the Vice Chairman of the TMOC Fair Play Commission.

Continuing its journey under the slogan “For the good, the beautiful, and the right,” the TMOC Fair Play Commission met with students of Kocaeli University to promote and instill the philosophy of Fair Play.

Prior to the panel held at the Kocaeli University Faculty of Sport Sciences Seminar Hall, Commission members paid a courtesy visit to Kocaeli Deputy Governor Aslan Avşarbey. Expressing his pleasure with the visit, Avşarbey emphasized that fair play is one of the indispensable elements of sports, social culture, and life itself.

The Commission members made their second visit in Kocaeli to Kocaeli University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Çelik. Commission Chairman Haldun Domaç thanked Prof. Dr. Çelik for his support and contributions to fair play and presented him with a Fair Play plaque.

Following the visits, the Fair Play photo and caricature exhibition was toured by students in the seminar hall. Afterwards, the panel sessions were held with the following presentations:

• Commission Chairman Haldun Domaç delivered a presentation titled “What is Fair Play?”,
• Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Selçuk Bora Çavuşoğlu spoke on “Fair Play and Personal Development”,
• Commission Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülçin Güven presented “Atatürk and Fair Play”,
• Commission Member Murat Faruk Özbay spoke on “The Past and Present of Fair Play in Turkey and the World”,
• Commission Member Hüseyin Özkök presented “Fair Play from the Perspective of a Journalist”,
• Dr. Başak Sönmez delivered her presentation titled “Fair Play Through Visuals”.

Following the panel, which was held with intense student participation, Kocaeli University Faculty of Sport Sciences Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Gül stated that they were honored to host the TMOC Fair Play Commission members and presented certificates of appreciation to the participants. In return, the TMOC Fair Play Commission awarded Fair Play medals to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mine Gül, Lecturer Rıza Erdal, and Dr. Lecturer Kemal Gazanfer Gül for their support.
