SAN MARINO WILL NAME A SQUARE AFTER DR LUDWIG GUTTMANN
A small space that becomes a great symbol.
The Great and General Council of the Republic of San Marino, with a unanimous vote, has chosen to name a square in the sports centre adjacent to Via Barone Pierre de Coubertin in Serravalle after Dr Ludwig Guttmann, the physician who, with his vision, gave life to Paralympic sport and a new idea of dignity for people with disabilities.
We are deeply grateful to the San Marino institutions for accepting this proposal. This gesture recognises that sport is not just competition, but above all life, hope and social interaction.
This small square thus becomes, ‘symbolically’, the ‘living space for people with disabilities’, a living space open to all, in today's society as in those of all times: a place that speaks of courage, inclusion and the future, testifying to the Republic of San Marino's commitment to a more inclusive and supportive society.
