MARCUS ADAMEC (SVK) LAUREATE OF THE EFPM FAIR PLAY FLAME AWARD 2023

Last year's football match between FC Petržalka and FC Košice in the 1st Slovak league U19 ended with a score of 0:4. In this type of competitions, the vast majority of players are amateurs who don't earn any money from football. That's why opportunities for corruption arise. Football players simply succumb to the chance of earning some easy money. Before this match, a pair of Petržalka players approached a teammate with an offer of a significant financial reward in exchange for helping manipulate the match for betting purposes. This player was Marcus Adamec, the goalkeeper of FC Petržalka, who, in accordance with the rules, reported this offer to the club representatives. As a goalkeeper, Marcus could have relatively easily influence the result, but he did not do it because he considers fair play one of the fundamental pillars of sports.

His actions are an excellent example not only for young athletes but for everyone. It shows that honesty, courage, and fair play have an irreplaceable place in sports.

Marcus Adamec received the EFPM “Flame Award 2023”.  The award was presented by Anton Siekel, President of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee, accompanied by Katarina Ráczová, Chairwoman of the SOSC´s Club Fair Play, EFPM ExCom member.
