Beknaz Almazbekov has been widely praised for a unique act of sportsmanship

A young Galatasaray footballer has been widely praised for a unique act of sportsmanship after deliberately missing a penalty he believed was incorrectly awarded.

Beknaz Almazbekov, the captain of Galatasaray's under-14s team, was dribbling on the left wing before cutting inside towards the penalty box in a match in Turkey against Istanbulspor earlier this week.

The 13-year-old went past a Istanbulspor defender before tumbling over inside the box and falling to the ground.

Istanbulspor protested the questionable decision and Almazbekov stepped forward to take the spot kick with his team leading 1-0.

But he turned down the shot at goal and intentionally kicked the ball out of play for a goal kick.

Galatasaray went on to win the match 3-0 and Almazbekov's act of fair play has been universally welcomed with praise around the sporting world.
