Nice gesture of friendship and respect

Rasovszky also made the headlines of the Hungarian newspapers with his gesture after his victory of placing his gold medal around the neck of Sudanese Mohamed Ibrahim, who finished 12 minutes behind Rasovszky in 61st place. According to Nemzeti Sport, Ibrahim arrived at the World Championships at 3 am, and paid for his own plane tickets to be able to compete. A Brazilian journalist discovered his story and asked Rasovsky after the 5 km race to talk to Ibrahim. Rasovszky went up to the swimmer, who finished in last place, saying: “Anyone who competes here and finishes the distance is a champion, regardless of placement. You’re a champion too!” then he put the gold medal on the Sudanese swimmer for a photo.
