On 16 March 2017, Niko Kovac, coach of German Bundesliga football team Eintracht Frankfurt, and the active alliance „Rio bewegt. Uns.“ (Rio moves. Us.) were awarded the Fair Play Award of the German Sport.

Niko Kovac showed enormous sympathy at the end of the second leg of the relegation match between his Eintracht Frankfurt and 1. FC Nürnberg, which was won by Eintracht Frankfurt. Instead of celebrating with his team the avoidance of relegation he primarily comforted players of 1. FC Nürnberg. „Such subtile gesture symbolizes the essence of Fair Play, which is supposed to be transmitted by active athletes and coaches“, the jury declared.
