The EOA, a strong partner of EFPM, organized the second seminar devoted to Olympic education

In 2022, the European Olympic Academies launched a new event format called “EOA Seminars”. In this series of regional workshops, experts and NOA delegates explore current issues in the Olympic Movement and means to apply them to the practice of the National Olympic Academies. At the same time, this setting provides a forum for academies from neighbouring countries to meet and share their knowledge and expertise.

The first edition was hosted by the Lithuanian Olympic Academy at Klaipeda University in August 2022, the second regional seminar was held in Eger (HUN) under the organisation of the Hungarian Olympic Academy on 1-3 March. EOA President Prof. Dr. Manfred Lämmer opened the seminar with a virtual welcoming speech.

The Slovak Republic was represented in Eger by two former successful sportswomen who currently work within the structures of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (SOSC) on a voluntary basis – fencer Katarína Ráczová, honorary member of the SOSC, long-time member of the Executive Board of the European Fair Play Movement, President of the Fair Play Club of the SOSC and modern pentathlete Elena Malíková, Chair of the Slovak Olympic Academy. Both delegates shared with the participants of the seminar in Eger Slovak examples of good practice in the field of Olympic education. In particular, they presented the educational activities organized under the expert guidance of Ivana Motolíková, Director of the Olympism Department of the SOSC, which were related to the EYOF 2022 in Banská Bystrica, an important multisport youth event that was recently organized in Slovakia. Katarina Ráczová also introduced the Fair Play Card project, the purpose of which it is to enshrine honest behavior on and off the sports field. This project belongs to the key projects not only of the Fair Play Club of the SOSC but also of the European Fair Play Movement.

The fruitful and successful seminar was closed by Executive Director of the EOA, Soenke Schadwinkel from Germany and EOA Vice-President Prof. Dr. Mária Bulatova from Ukraine, who summarized outcomes and practice from discussions.

Participants concluded that the seminar was a great opportunity for all NOAs to showcase the development of value education in their countries as well as an occasion to discuss current new challenges in Europe in the field of Olympism and Olympic education.
