The San Marino National Fair Play Committee (CNSFP) adheres to the World Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination which is celebrated every year on 21 March; the date was chosen to remember when on 21 March 1960 in South Africa, in the midst of apartheid, the police opened fire on a group of black demonstrators, killing sixty-nine and injuring 180, a day remembered as the Shaperville massacre.
On this particular and heartfelt occasion, many organized and promoted initiatives dedicated to a week of solidarity to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination to take sides and support those who fight against racism and racial discrimination, a plague that unfortunately still manifests itself.
The commitment of all of us must be strong and decisive against such negative actions to support peace building through international cooperation in education, science, culture, sports etc... racism, xenophobia and intolerance have been at the basis of the most tragic episodes in the history of humanity and still today they are the spark and pretext for the most serious violations of human rights.
Our society must strive to achieve real social cohesion and reject all forms of conflict and in particular those carried out in the name of a race or a cultural and religious model.
Each of us can take a stand against racial prejudice and any form of intolerance.
