"KUGY" MARMOT, MOUNTAINEEPER AND MASCOT OF THE 2023 EYOF GAMES

The mascot that accompanies all the events related to the XVIth winter edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival, starting with the journey of the "Road to EYOF2023" torch, is called KUGY. This was announced by Governor Fedriga himself. “Friuli Venezia Giulia is a set of different cultures and territories – he explained during the press conference-. The mountaineer Julius Kugy is the perfect synthesis of our Region, located in the heart of Central Europe. Carinthian father, Slovenian-speaking mother from Trieste, born in Gorizia, student in Trieste, great lover and connoisseur of the Julian Alps which he climbed by opening no less than fifty new routes together with local guides. Mountaineer, but also musician and botanist, citizen of Europe, we have identified him as a reference figure also for his lesson in ethics and civilization". President Fedriga then thanked all those who were the first to believe in this opportunity, in this international sporting event dedicated to young athletes and who, with their enthusiasm, also led the Region to believe in it, as an institution.
