Mrs. Ayşe Ünlüce, Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality (TUR), named "Fair Play Mother
Ayşe Ünlüce, Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality, has been named "Fair Play Mother" by the Fair Play Commission of the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC). Speaking at the award ceremony, Mayor Ünlüce said: "Fair Play means looking to the future with hope and building it with peace and love. I accept this award on behalf of all the mothers of Eskişehir".
On 12 November, the Fair Play Commission of the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC) held the Eskişehir Fair Play Mothers Panel and Award Ceremony at the Frigya Hall of the Haller Youth Centre.
The panel was preceded by the opening of the 11th World Fair Play Cartoon Exhibition and the 1st and 2nd World Fair Play Photography Competition Exhibitions.
The event was attended by Ayşe Ünlüce, former Mayor Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Büyükerşen, TOC Fair Play Commission President Ahmet Erdoğan Arıpınar, Fair Play Commission Vice President Remzi Yılmaz, commission members, municipal bureaucrats, mothers and mothers-to-be from Eskişehir and many citizens.
Speaking after the opening of the exhibition, TOC Fair Play Commission President Ahmet Erdoğan Arıpınar said he was happy to be in Eskişehir. He congratulated Mayor Ünlüce on being the city's first female mayor and wished her continued success.
Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce emphasised the importance of Fair Play in promoting a hopeful and peaceful future: "This language of peace and love is truly fitting for the city of Yunus Emre.
Starting with our children and families, if we teach this language of love, empathy, respect, understanding and appreciating each other - especially listening to each other - then sport, art, culture, friendship and peace will follow naturally. I think this fits Eskişehir perfectly. I send my greetings to Turkey as a Fair Play Mother and accept this award on behalf of all the mothers in Eskişehir. Thank you," she said..
After the speeches, TMOK Fair Play Commission President Ahmet Erdoğan Arıpınar presented Mayor Ünlüce with the "Fair Play Mother" award. Arıpınar also presented a guest of honour plaque to Prof. Dr. Yılmaz Büyükerşen.
After the award ceremony, a panel discussion moderated by Bülent Tuncay, a member of the TMOK Fair Play Commission, was held with experts including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melike Türkan Bağlı, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Yıldıran, Remzi Yılmaz, Prof. Dr. Gülfem Sezen Balçıkanlı and Gülbin Ülker. They shared examples and advice on how to raise children in the spirit of Fair Play with the women of Eskişehir who were candidates for the title of Fair Play Mother. At the end of the panel discussion, all participants recited the Fair Play Oath together, led by Vice-President Remzi Yılmaz, after which they received their certificates.
At the end of the Eskişehir Fair Play Mothers panel discussion and award ceremony, plaques of appreciation were presented to Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General M. Recai Erdir and Youth and Sports Department Head Dr. Mehmet Ali Çeliksoy for their role in organising the event. The president of the Eskişehir branch of the Turkish Sports Writers' Association (TSYD), Sadi Seda, was awarded a medal for his contribution. Thank-you medals were also presented to local officials and staff involved in the event.
