Representatives of Mardin, host of the European Fair Play Movement Awards and the European Fair Play Congress 2024 - at the celebration of World Fair Play Day

On the occasion of the 5th World Fair Play Day and the 2nd EFPM "Fair Play for Peace" Award Ceremony, held in the Gothic Hall of the Brussels City Hall, representatives of the Organising Committee of the Turkish host city of Mardin, the Congress and the European Fair Play Awards officially signed the contract for these events, which will take place from 21 to 24 October 2024.

M. Mehmet UNCU - President of the Chamber of Commerce, M. Mehmet SAMSA - Member of Organizing Committee of Fair Play Award Ceremony and Congress in Mardin and M. Ayhan GOK - Mardin Culture and Tourism provincial director, representing the governorship, accompanied by Bilge Donuk from the Turkish Olympic Committee's Fair Play Commission, received the relay of values from M. Philippe HOUSIAUX and Mrs Katarina RACZOVA, President and Treasurer of the European Fair Play Movement.

This will be an opportunity to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the European Fair Play Movement and the Turkish Fair Play Committee in this city of 130,000 inhabitants, which is ‘living’ proof that peaceful cohabitation between many communities is possible, and that it can play a key role in promoting dialogue and tolerance at international level. The city of Mardin, a symbol of cultural and religious diversity, could only be a choice host for this organisation.

Since 2020, the aim of this World Fair Play Day has been to celebrate Fair Play as a key value and to mobilise as many people as possible around the message ‘Fair Play is every day, by everyone and everywhere’.

For its 5th edition, this World Day also highlighted the operation « Crossing Europe for Fair Play and Peace » : a relay that will traverse the continent, bringing together athletes, sports enthusiasts, students, trainers, teachers, and advocates of Fair Play from all corners of Europe. Through a series of national relay events we will celebrate the values that bind us together and promote a more harmonious and fair society.

The theme of the Congress, ‘Fair Play Education to Overcome Violence, Bullying, and Cheating in Sport’, underlines the importance of Fair Play education in fighting abuses in sport.
