Successful events of the European Fair Play Movement organised in the place where the Olympic idea was born

The annual European Fair Play Congress took place on 18 May at the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia, Greece, under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees and the International Commission of Sports Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE). The Congress was successfully organised by the Hellenic Olympic Academy and brought together 27 representatives from European Olympic Committees, European Olympic Academies, European and International Sports Organisations. The theme of the Congress was "Fair Play Education to Promote Inclusion in Sport" and was coordinated by Prof. Thierry Zintz, Head of the EFPM Scientific Advisory Committee. Distinguished Academics and Sport personalities dealt with this topic and among them was the President of the Hellenic Olympic Academy, Olympic gold and silver medalist in Gymnastics, Mr. Demosthenes Tampakos.

 

On the evening of 19 May, the EFPM organized the annual Fair Play Awards Ceremony at the EUROPA Hotel. The ceremony was wonderful, and the participants applauded the Laureates warmly.Among the Laureates were outstanding, successful and active sports personalities who serve as role models for the younger generation, as well as worthy campaigns and projects to follow, and last but not least, personalities who are dedicated to educating young people and showing that sport has another dimension than just breaking records and winning. Members of the Czech women's chess team, Olympic champion and world champion in road and track cycling Iúri Gabriel Dantas Leitão (POR) came to Olympia to receive their trophies in person. The European Fair Play Diploma under the auspices of the European Olympic Committees was awarded this year to Panathlon Wallonie-Bruxelles and its Fair Play Workshops project, and a similar award was also given to the Turkish National Olympic Committee's Sports Culture and Olympic Education project.

Of course, the Laureates of the European Fair Play Movement's top prize, which is awarded under the auspices of the EOC, were also present: Gennaro Testa (ITA) and, on behalf of the Hellenic Olympic Academy, Demosthenes Tampakos. They received the award for their project "International Fair Play Passport", which presents a strong message symbolizing Olympic values.

 

On the 20th of May, the EFPM held its Annual General Meeting and the election of the new Executive Committee. The procedure ran smoothly and the new Board for the next four (4) years is as follows:
